Brew #60: Box Hill Bitter

January 10, 2014

Brett_The_Stonebreaker

Practically the same grist as with the previous beer, scaled up and some chocolate malt added for colour adjustment. Cascade hops for aroma and grapefruity freshness.

A spanner into the works – found 20g of Nelson Sauvin un-accounted for while taking the hops out of the freezer, the aroma was still very lemony. Although NS has the most lemony smell and aroma I’ve encountered, it doesn’t show in the finished beer as such.

22g of Magnum hops looked very little but hopefully they were just compressed tighter.

What I’m trying to brew here is a beer that when first seen makes one go “another boring brown beer” but when tasted the aromas from Cascade and NS surprise.

Overshot the gravity by one point. Mash efficiency 85 per cent.
