Tasting impressions #53: Christmas Spiced Ale

January 1, 2014

The Christmas beer ended at 7 per cent abv. Bright reddish mahogany copper:

I’ve gone off Belgian yeast so I used S04 instead, looks like I’ve had enough of spices in the beer too. Aroma is boozy cardamom. Mouthfeel is light and sessionable, dry. Taste is not boozy at all, some crispiness from the hops, very drinkable if I liked those spices, but for me, a step too far. Sugars used really dried and thinned the beer out, not a malty beer. A flavour experiment gone horribly wrong but I’ll get back to this beer in a year’s time to see if the cardamom has eased up a bit.
