Tasting impressions #44: Bog Standard Bitter

June 4, 2013

Four days after bottling, nice lasting head and ample carbonation – the beer is ready for its sole reason for existence. Gravity ended up at 1009 ie barely 4 per cent abv.

The head lasts for ages, could be the multi-step mash schedule in the recipe. What a brilliant lacing on the glass. Aroma is peaches and summery fruits. Mouthfeel is a bit thin understandably. Fairly dry, some smooth bitterness. Bog standard really but am still a bit disappointed in Fuggles and EKG hops as I’ve had better results with them previously and seem to remember some woody, musky and dusty character, none of which are present in this beer. A light and fruity summer ale.
