The Kernel Brewery part 1: Pale Ale Ahtanum Cascade Citra

January 4, 2013

5.1 per cent abv. Bottled 19.09.12 best before 19.1.13. Low carbonation. Aroma is tropical fruit, sweet ripe mango, some piney resin. Taste is pine, oily resin, bitterness up front, not so much of that late boil aroma hoppiness. Smooth and tight. A neat little beer, quite sophisticated actually. Never come across Ahtanum hops, I assume they are for bittering, and smooth it is in a bitter way. A good start but I knew it would be having had a bottle of some early Chinook or similar single hop batch from Kernel at Brew Wharf in late 2009 – if the memory serves.
