Tasting impressions #31: Porter 1044

October 28, 2012

The porter was bottled on 21st October and ended up at 1010 (~4.5 per cent abv).  Loose one finger head, medium carbonation (will increase in the future sessions).

The beer is clear and dark ruby red. Aroma is fresh roastiness.  Taste is more roast and then some coffee with dry hoppiness.  The body is a bit thin.  The beer feels a bit one-dimensional. The conclusion is clear, porters benefit from a fruity yeast strain. Also, perhaps in this case less is not more when it comes to the recipe. I wonder if this really is a porter at all – perhaps it’s just a bitter with a good whack of chocolate malt. Very sessionable nevertheless.
