Tasting notes #30: Rye Mild

October 4, 2012

The mild ended up at 1016 OG (~2.9 per cent ABV). Low carbonation and no head.

Sweetish, rye bready on the nose. Mouthfeel is understandably a bit watery. No hop aroma or taste at all, just malts. No yeast characteristics (S-33), very neutral. Next time I brew with this rye malt I’ll increase the OG above 1050 to see how that will work but as a low gravity beer it does its job: a great restorative after a run or a sauna. And due to low carbonation I can tap one of the four 5-litre casks and enjoy it for a few days and not worry about decreasing condition.
